With school back in session, the City continues to work on projects that provide safe walking paths to neighborhood schools. Some projects are funded with federal money through a Safe Routes to School grant program. Most projects were funded through a combination of state, other federal grants and City monies through the Street Fund.

An updated booster shot of COVID-19 vaccine is just around the corner. Today the FDA authorized updated booster vaccines for emergency use, but there are still a few steps left in the approval process. Expert panels will review the applications from Pfizer and Moderna for these new booster vaccines at the end of this week and if they decide to recommend them, the updated Omicron-specific boosters could be available late next week.

SeaTac crews pick up 430 bags of litter from local streets so far this summer
SeaTac crews have been going out twice a month to specifically pick up litter near highway on and off-ramps. So far in August, crews have spent 20 hours cleaning up these areas, resulting in 60 bags of garbage.

Puget Sound Fire weekly update: Firefighters respond to two local blazes including SeaTac encampment fire
On Aug. 19 Puget Sound Fire responded to a brush fire on the 20400 block of International Blvd. Firefighters arrived and found a 100-foot by 100-foot encampment fire. Firefighters contained and extinguished the fire in approximately 45 minutes. No injuries were reported.
Highline Schools to offer free meals to students this year thanks to a national program
Highline Public Schools has been approved for the Community Eligibility Provision program as part of the National School Lunch Program for School Year 2022-23. Under this provision, all enrolled students on campus can receive a no-cost breakfast and lunch each school day.
